Pussy Riot, Russian punk and band activist, have teamed together with numerous cryptocurrency organizations to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs), sell them and collect donations for Ukrainian civilian organizations. UkraineDAO has launched 1/1 NFT of the Ukrainian flag at noon EST on Saturday, with profits going to Ukraine’s Come Back Alive, “one of the most effective and transparent Ukrainian philanthropic and volunteer organizations.”

On Thursday, Nadya Tolokno declared on Twitter that she had launched a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that would sell NFTs to aid victims of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “Our mission is to generate cash for Ukrainian civilian organizations to assist those suffering due to Putin’s conflict in Ukraine”.

About Pussy Riot

Pussy Riot is a Moscow-based Russian feminist protest punk rock and performance art group. They have around 11 members and one of its members, Nadya Tolokno, tweeted about raising funds for Ukraine.

“Our goal is to use what we’re good at, web3, to assist Ukrainians as they cope with the Russian invasion of their country,” Pussy Riot tweeted of UkraineDAO. “We’ll be buying an NFT of the Ukrainian flag.”

Ukrainian Flag NFTs

In collaboration with Trippy Labs and PLeasrDAO, the UkrainianDAO will mint 10,000 Ukrainian flags NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain and transfer the earnings to the Return Alive Foundation and Mission Proliska.

Addition of their Art

“We consciously avoided adding our own art to this release; in a way, it’s our powerful conceptual aesthetic statement,” the group’s co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova said in a statement. People can have various aesthetics, but the point is to come together to save lives, not to argue over which color we prefer. “The Ukrainian flag binds us together.”

People can also donate any amount of money to participate in the NFT sale, and in return for their donation, they will be receiving a digital keepsake. As the country’s banking institutions, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was rocked by the invasion and the imposition of martial law.

Tolokonnikova told Bloomberg, “Crypto is borderless, permitless, and so much easier and faster than fiat.”

Conclusion

NFTs and cryptocurrencies demonstrated their clear utilities and many people have begun to understand why are these tech innovations important and why they matter. If the war continues, we will surely see more aid through cryptos, but hopefully, we won’t.
