Up until 2021, no game could be considered competitive with Web2. In the beginning, these games were built with a play-to-earn model. It was clear from Axie Infinity’s model, however, that this was not sustainable and that this system needed to undergo a significant change, something that was certainly reflected in the evolution of GameFi tokens, which were hyped during the Bull Run, but also experienced the worst bleeding during the Bear Market.

In spite of all these things, there have been some exciting new game development projects that will easily compete with even Web2 games in the future in 2023. The significant competitive advantage of Web3 games over Web2 games is the ability to monetize gameplay time, such as by acquiring NFTs, which can then be sold on marketplaces. Furthermore, the industry faces an exciting challenge, namely interoperability between games, i.e., the ability to use assets from one game in another.

As far as development goes, these five are the best of dozens of games we have in this field.

1. Illuvium

Illuvium, the world’s first IBG (Interoperable Blockchain Game) is an upcoming open-world exploration, NFT creature collector and autobattler game built on the Ethereum blockchain. 5. Off The Grid

It’s a dystopian Battle Royale developed in collaboration with Neill Blomkamp that emphasizes narrative progression and evolution of the genre. There is a real-time PvP skirmish map inhabited by other players as well as a storyline map occupied by players. Game is developed by Gunzilla. As well as 150 players competing against one another, Off The Grid also includes real-time PvE (player versus environment) missions, where player actions affect how the story unfolds (and therefore how other players play).

Conclusion

According to recent survey results, Web 3 Games have an interesting future ahead of them. Coda Labs, a blockchain entertainment company, commissioned a survey targeted at game developers to find out how they view Web3. In the study, 75% of respondents expect to work on Web3 projects in the future, with a majority believing that Web3 gaming is on its way to their firms. There is no doubt that all 5 games look very attractive and interesting, but delivering a functional game is more important in this sector than pretty videos. There are two games that have the best chance of success: Citizen Conflict and Illuvium.
